Wilson A2K vs A2000 Gloves | What's The Difference?

A2K vs A2000 Gloves | What's The Difference?

Iconic.

Ever since 1913, when Chicago-based Ashland Manufacturing started making baseball gloves, Wilson has been a part of the American fabric. They are a true American icon in the world of baseball. With players such as Mookie Betts, Clayton Kershaw, and Evan Longoria (to name a few) donning Wilson gloves, the company continues to cement its iconic status.

Two of their best-known glove models -- the A2K and the A2000 -- continue to be well-known. Due to their ongoing impact on the game, we felt that we needed to review the differences between Wilson's two most popular glove models.

First of all, a high-level explanation of each glove series is important.

Wilson A2000 gloves were introduced in 1957 as a premium ball glove. The A2000 combines craftsmanship, a long lasting shape and added protection technology that eliminates sting and provides a satisfying feel. Major Leaguers like Tim Anderson and Clayton Kershaw use these gloves.

Wilson A2K gloves are nothing short of perfection. They are constructed with some of the best ball glove leather in the world. A2K glove technicians at Wilson meticulously hand shape each A2K glove, so the gloves are considered the most premium available. These models have been used by MLB players such as Mookie Betts and Matt Chapman.

Both glove series are high-quality and feature Wilson's signature patterns, but they're not the same. Here are the main differences between the A2K and A2000 gloves:

  • Price -- With a higher quality Pro Stock Select leather, A2Ks are more expensive than A2000 gloves which feature regular Pro Stock leather. The average cost of a new Wilson A2K glove is $350+, whereas a new A2000 is $250+.
  • Leather -- As mentioned above, A2000 use Pro Stock leather while A2Ks are made from triple-sorted Pro Stock Select leather that is known throughout the industry as the most flawless leather in the game today.
  • Craftsmanship -- Each A2K glove is hand-shaped three times longer than other gloves. The extra time is noticeable when you look at the details of the A2Ks after they are delivered.

Despite the Wilson A2K being a more high-end model with superior leather and craftsmanship, customers and MLB players tend to prefer the Wilson A2000 glove. The reasons vary, but the A2000 series has been around for 60+ years and they have consistently delivered for defenders at the highest level of baseball.

Below are some reasons JustGloves.com customers prefer the Wilson A2000 glove:

  • Popularity -- A2000 gloves have been used since 1957. More players own them, so the series awareness is stronger than the A2K.
  • Price -- A2K gloves use higher-end leathers and superior craftsmanship. This makes for a better glove, but customers prefer the $100+ savings for an A2000 that is still considered to be a high quality glove.
  • Quantity -- A2000 gloves are more readily available. Simply, there are not as many A2K choices as there are A2000 choices.
